The man behind the brand, Richard Homburg
Some people are privileged to exploit all their favourite pastimes and passions.
Real estate tycoon Richard Homburg loves watches and is one of the keenest collectors of exclusive watches with mechanical movements. He has a unique collection of rare watches with the emphasis
on tourbillon models. He loves classical mopeds as well, but that is quite another story, although watches and mopeds share their purely mechanical hearts.
During his work for his
Homburg real estate corporation Richard travels around the world in his private Falcon jet. He lives in the Netherlands, Switzerland and Canada, and knows his way around the financial centres of
the world. One of the countries he has come to love is China. And when the opportunity arose to buy a Chinese watch-making company, he decided to combine business and his love of watches.
The Alexander-Phillip Watch Company (named after his son) was established in 2007 and now produces appr. 5.000 watches a year. The collection consists of basic models with quartz
movements, sporting chronographs with mechanical movements and even tourbillon models! All watches are made and finished to Swiss quality standards. This may come as a surprise but most Chinese
master watchmakers are trained and educated in Switzerland; it is no coincidence that most important Swiss brands have established subsidiaries in China, especially for the production of cases
and movements.
AWC profits from this combination of Chinese handwork and the Swiss obsession with quality. The consumer profits from an altogether other combination: of high
quality and astonishingly low prices!
